Argentina have inflicted another World Cup pain on Nigeria, but this time in basketball.
Nigeria’s men basketball team, D’Tigers recorded a 94-81 points loss to Argentina at the Wuhan Wuhan Sports Center to record their second loss at the FIBA Basketball World Cup on Monday in China.
The D’Tigers won the second quarter 26-15 to head into halftime tied 43-43 after going down by 11 points in the first quarter.
On resumption of the third quarter, the D’Tigers couldn’t hold on to the momentum as they were crushed 29-18 to set up a tensed 4th and final quarter.
Minnesota Timberwolves star, Josh Okogie scored a game high 18 points, but it was not enough to help the D’Tigers stop the rampaging Argentina led by Patricio Garino who poured in 17 points.
Nigeria earned a paltry 18 points from 15 turnovers as against Argentina’s 27 points from 16 turnovers to surrender control of the game.
The D’Tigers had earlier lost to Russia 82-77 points on Sunday in their first group game of the Basketball World Cup.
Nigeria next face South Korea in the last group game.
