One of the major characters of the 2015 Presidential election, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has come heavily on his party, saying “it is a party that kills the spirit of members.”

Orubebe is a member of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs during the administration of former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former minister also described some of his fellow PDP members as being ungrateful and sadistic elements.

According to him, PDP is a party that kills the spirit of loyalty, love and commitment of members, who dedicate themselves to its cause.

Orubebe who acted as a presidential polling agent at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 31, 2015, attempted to disrupt the announcement of presidential result.

He had alleged that INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had taken side with the main opposition political party, APC. Incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari won the election and it became the first time main opposition party would be taking power at the federal level since 1999.

He later tendered an unreserved apology for his conduct, urging them not to follow in his footsteps and explaining that he regretted his action.

In his first public outburst against his party, he said the PDP was doing sadistic things at the local government, state and national levels and that the behaviour of the party was hurting.

He said the behaviour of some of the party bigwigs is also laughable and funny to him, “One day we shall come out to call names with facts and history. It is a party that kills the spirit of loyalty, love and commitment,” Vanguard quoted him as saying.

“The Peoples Democratic Party is a party of so many ungrateful and sadistic people, and sometimes it sounds funny when I see and hear some of them talk on the television, radio and in the newspaper,” the former minister said.

At the time of filing this report, the national headquarters of PDP was yet to react, but social media users have also reacted to his statement, saying he’s gradually preparing the ground to dump PDP for APC.
