Chelsea fans criticise one player despite beating Slavia Prague 1-0 away from home

Chelsea took a big step towards a Europa League semi-final place as a late Marcos Alonso header was enough to give a below par Blues side the win in their first leg tie at Slavia Prague on Thursday night. The Blues fans were pointing a disapproving finger at one player in particular – at least before their late winner. Chelsea look set to qualify for the semi-finals of the Europa League after battling to a lone goal win at Slavia Prague on Thursday.

The hosts had the better of a quiet first half, but it was the Blues who came closest to breaking the deadlock through Willian’s thunderous strike which crashed off the crossbar. Eden Hazard was brought on just after the interval to try and bring a dismal game to life, and his arrival quickly raised the tempo, with Antonio Rudiger’s volley forcing a smart save, before Willian dragged a good opportunity just wide.

Chelsea’s winner came in the 85th minute when a wonderful Willian cross was powerfully headed home by Alonso to give the Blues their crucial away goal.

However, the Blues were far from their best throughout the night, failing to show any of the creative flair Maurizio Sarri has tried to implement. With a huge Premier League clash with Liverpool awaiting them on Sunday, the Blues boss opted to rest key men Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante. But with the bulk of his players not living up to their potential in the Czech capital, Sarri threw both on in the second half.

Chelsea never really looked in any danger all night, with the west London side controlling the play. But fans were less than impressed with the performance of certain individuals. The likes of Willian and Ross Barkley failed to shine against fairly weak opposition. But it was left-back Marcos Alonso who came in for some merciless criticism.

Chelsea – Slavia Prague thoughts:

– Kepa w/ some great saves
– Rüdiger solid
– Christensen w/ timely defending
– Alonso big ⚽️ but can’t start vs LFC
– Kovačić useless
– Pedro didn’t play
– Giroud is human in Europa after all
– Willian good
– Big away goal but CFC unimpressive

Mad how many people are ready to defend Alonso’s drink driving actions, if he didn’t wear a Chelsea shirt they wouldn’t think twice about condemning him.

Willian to Alonso. Blasted.

Please Sarri don’t take any wrong hints, and start either of them in the near future.

First half thoughts- don’t want to be negative but it was trash. This shows us all why Willian, Pedro, Barkley, Kovacic and Alonso don’t play for the important games.
